Meditation – Sits Bones Grounded
Importance of Breath and Oxygen:
Breath is our life force. It is the bridge between the mind and the body. It is the only means by which we allow oxygen into our body and into our vital organs so that they can function optimally. Without enough oxygen, our entire body system becomes sluggish and stops functioning in a healthy manner. Breath allows us to get rid of toxins and wastes from our body.
Issues with Unaware Breathing
We all breathe every moment, every day 24X7. It is a natural process and we breathe without being aware of our breath as it is spontaneous, natural and automatic. It is a part of living.
But we do not realize that many of us develop unhealthy habits over the years like slouching, and other incorrect postures that leads to restricted and shallow breathing and reduced lung capacity. We develop tension in our muscles leading to contracted muscles which in turn leads to various other health problems. like fatigue, short and quick breaths, degrading of lung muscles and capacity, reduced vitality, premature aging, and a poor immune system that leads to cold, flu, and allergies. Tiredness, irritability, sleeplessness, nervousness, anxiety, heart-burns, upset stomachs, gas, muscle cramps, dizziness, and loss in productivity are only some of the symptoms of unaware breathing.
Reasons behind Problematic Breathing
Quick, shallow and short breathing is a result of our modern living and unaware lifestyle.
Some of the key factors of problematic breathing are:
- Negative thinking
- Hurried lifestyle
- Mental and emotional stress
- Lethargic and sedentary living
Bad Habits Can Be Changed
Bad living habits can lead to major health issues like heart disease, strokes and cancer, leading to shortened life.
But habits can be changed by bringing awareness of breath, which starts with acknowledging the bad habits and understanding the repercussions of bad habits.
Controlled Breathing or Pranayama
Pranayama or Controlled Breathing is one of the eight limbs of yoga as defined by Patanjali. Pranayama is the art and science of breath control, promoting healthy breathing which revitalizes the mind and the body. Pranayama is a series of breathing exercises to control breath or prana, the vital life force.

Meditation
Meditation is also one of the 8 limbs of yoga. Its importance lies in bringing mental clarity and health.
As long as there is breath, there is thoughts. So human being cannot be without thoughts. But how chaotic the thoughts are or how busy the mind is with thoughts every moment defines the state of the human mind – chaotic or at peace.
Meditation is the gap between thoughts.
There are various meditation techniques, which when practiced daily brings in physiological and psychological benefits. Meditation promotes the alpha state of brainwave pattern, which in turn enables natural healing of mind and body.

Breathing, Meditation and Yoga go hand in hand
Breath is the bridge between the mind and the body.
Meditation brings in clarity of the mind.
Yoga enables the healthy physical state of the body inside out.
If the body is not physically healthy, it will not be able to relax.
Without controlled breathing, the lung capacity will remain degraded and the benefits of deep stretching will not fully realized.
Without a restful body and a healthy lung, meditation practice cannot be achieved.

A safe and comfortable place of your choice where you will not be disturbed. Although morning and evening meditations are the best because they follow our bodies natural rhythms, however anytime you can find you can meditate. As little as 5 to 15 minutes a day is a good start.
At least once a day if possible, and better yet is once in the morning and once in the evening.
A light stomach keeps your light and the mind is able to be free of intrusive thoughts, as opposed to having heavy food in your stomach at the time you meditate.
Humans in general use less than 30% capacity in their lungs which invites deceases in the body. Breathing properly gives clarity of mind and it is our very “life source.”
