  • Manage Your Stress Effectively

    Manage Your Stress Effectively

Manage Your Stress Effectively – Reclaim Your Happiness

You are under stress if you are not in your naturally joyful state of being.

There are many underlying factors causing stress in ones life, but every factor is a result of the 3 critical factors mentioned below:

    • Relationship: You are in an uncomfortable relationship with a significant other or a family member or a friend or with someone related to your work. Yoiu want to be in control of the situation but you are not. This is damaging to your emotional health.
    • Money: Your finances are keeping you worried. You are living from paycheck to paycheck.
    • Health: You are not in a healthy state of being. You have physical health related issues. You are unable to manage your Eating Habits.

If you are under duress due to any one of the above, you are STRESSED!

So how do you keep your stress under control?

I manage mine very effectively. Here is My Story – Utter Chaos To Joyful Health

    In general people think:
-if they ignore or avoid the stress factor, they will be able to manage their stress – ignoring or avoiding never helps. We need to face our situation boldly and manage the stress factor with result based action steps.
    – if they exercise, they will be able to manage their stress – exercise always helps by producing happy hormones in the body but is temporary for as long as you exercise you are good; you leave it and you are back to square one! So Exercise daily!
    – if they sit and meditate, they will be able to manage their stress – it relaxes and calms the mind but is temporary for it lasts as long as you have calmed your thoughts! So Meditate daily!

Effective stress management is a skill and an art that is learned through AWARENESS – which comes through education of the mind; through exercises like meditation, breathing techniques and visualization which are simply tools to develop awareness of your authentic Self so that there can be a change in attitude and perceptions, a change in ones belief system, that is transformation in the way you think and act!  With changed perceptions and better habits, every aspect of your life improves: relationships, finances, and health.

Such education is even more important than the academics through school and college. It comes with learning life skills – proper learning of life changing tools, with practice, with patience, but when learned you are able to manage your stress in such a way that joy surfaces at all times no matter what is going on in your life!

At Wellness Haven, we are passionate about teaching such tools so that you can better every aspect of your life, so that you can live the life you were meant to live, so that you can feel the joy surging like a fountain from deep within, so that external factors do not keep you bound to struggle and misery. Such powerful tools and techniques that change the very way you think are called Life Coaching Tools and that is what a Life Coach like me teaches you through getting you jump-started on the right track and then holding your hand for a complete one year or as long as you desire to be supported.

We get you started with an initial 4 hour program, Reclaim Your Happiness, which begins your life impacting journey!

  • Not Losing Weight!

    Not Losing Weight!

Exercising Regularly And Eating Right But Not Losing Weight!

“I am exercising regularly, and I am eating right, but I am not losing weight!”

Some of you will relate to the above statement.

Here are the top few reasons that you may not be losing weight:

    1. You may not be having all the ingredients needed in your exercise routine to lose the fat weight in your body:
    • Are you getting your internal organs completely massaged though yoga asanas 5-6 days a week, so that internal body is functioning its optimal best?
    • Are you building flexibility in your body through the yoga asanas so that all your muscles and ligaments are stretched to build up an optimal circulatory system, a healthy nervous system, an optimally functioning endocrine system, as well as healthy muscular system, lymphatic system, the digestive system? No other exercise does your body good the way a wholesome yoga asana practice does by working you from head to toe.
    • Are you building strength through yoga asanas that work with your own body’s resistance as well as low weights to build up your muscles?
    • Are you building balance through yoga asanas that provide you the very best support through all sorts of props?
    • Are you able to do a combination of yoga asana practice – from the beginner practice to an intermediate level where even the static poses works up your heart rate (which is very much needed for a wholesome practice)?
    • Remember that if you are not able to work up your heart rate quite yet because you do not have the flexibility, strength or stamina to be in asanas that get your heart rate up, then you need to invest time in brisk walking and hiking as well.
    1. You may not be getting quality sleep or the number of hours your body may need:
    • Sleep deprivation affects your metabolism and appetite.
    • Sleep deprivation affects your mood, contributes to stress and impacts the cortisol/fat impacting hormone.
    1. You are leading a stressful life:
    • Constant stress leads to increase in cortisol that leads to increased appetite and increased abdominal fat as well.
    1. You are not eating right, because you are confused about:
    • What you eat
    • When you eat
    • How you eat
    • Where you eat
    • How do you shop for food
    1. You are not tracking your muscle mass and fat percentage:
    • Women lose approximately 1% muscle mass every year after 25-30 years if they do not exercise, continue to eat what they ate when they were younger and are doing nothing different to burn calories.
    • Stick to a daily exercise routine and a healthy eating routine, change your lifestyle and there is no way you will not only feel healthier from within but also start glowing.
    • You are not tracking your eating
    • You over-indulge on vacation, holidays, parties
    • You have become an emotional eater who feels rewarded through eating
    1. You are impatient:
    • You have not given yourself the time your body needs to feel and look better. After all you have spent all these years not taking care of you; how do you expect to achieve results in a few days?
    • Remember that each person is different for each person has a different metabolism, and a different body type. Kapha body types cannot be thin Barbie dolls and still be healthy! Be patient and honor your own body type. The goal should not be to be thin but to be healthy.
    1. You may have a medical condition like the issues relate with thyroid:
    • Thyroid deficiency can decrease your metabolic activity and lead to weight gain. Besides checking with your doctor for thyroid related issues, indulge in yoga asanas especially for thyroids.
    • Find out from your doctor if you have any medical condition affecting your metabolism and weight gain.
    1. You have reached a plateau:
    • If you are trying to lose pounds and you have not budged for 4 weeks in a row, you have reached a plateau.
    • A healthy and wholesome yoga practice should come with different sequences to keep the body challenged.
    • If you are not eating enough of the right food before you exercise, you will not have enough fuel to burn the fat and will act negatively in your goal to lose weight.
    1. You do not have a daily Pranayama/Breathing practice and Meditation practice to keep you calm, relaxed and at peace:
    • Just like we eat every day, we need to exercise our lungs every day.
    • We need a daily meditation practice to create a peaceful mind that is relaxed even when presented with life events that puts one out of balance temporarily.

    10. You are at optimal weight and fat percentage for your body:

    • Not everyone needs to have a slim figure.
    • Not everyone needs to lose weight.
    • What you do need is to be HEALTHY: Exercise regularly, Eat right for your body type, Sleep well, remain Stress Free. And that is it!

At Wellness Haven you get to be healthy and wholesome:

    1. A wholesome Yoga Asana practice suitable for your body.
    2. A wholesome Nutrition Program that takes care of your body.
    3. A wholesome Breathing and meditation practice that takes care of your lungs and your mind.

Spend 3 months with us and see how healthy and wholesome you feel. What are you waiting for?

  • Health Matters

    Health Matters

    Health Matters

How unfortunate it is that it takes a drastic life event for people to start taking a deeper look at what is keeping them in a dis-eased state of being. People are investing a lot of money in food they do not need, drinks that is doing nothing towards their health, clothes and shoes that are simply going on top of already overflowing closet…and so called “friends” who are draining their energy!

The mind controls it all and yet for many it remains in a state of chaos – unfulfilled and deprived, and without clarity.

Instead of investing in health in its every aspect, so that it keeps one joyfully alive, people rather spend their hard earned money on things that do not really serve and buying medicine to “cure” the dis-eased state of being.

Students come to us and tell us how unsatisfactory the short term benefit was from going to the physical therapist and how much money it had cost. And yet just 10 sessions at Wellness Haven Yoga had already made a world of difference to them.

A conversation from this morning with 3 students gathered together:
    One with a kidney transplant
One with high blood pressure and osteoporosis
    One with an auto-immune disease

All three had come in dissatisfied with their current state of affairs – through a local fitness membership with gym equipment, their regime with the physical therapist, or the medicine given by their doctors. Now all three are enjoying better health through Wellness Haven Gentle Yoga Class where every part of their body is being taken care of taking them towards better health.

At Wellness Haven, we communicate with you to understand your current state of being and we provide you with our undivided attention through Breathing and Meditation practices, Yoga Asanas, Nutritional Guidance so that you can start leading a fulfilled life. If you are facing an injury that your doctor has done all that they could and you are still in pain with no alternative, Wellness Haven Gentle Yoga or 1 on 1 session at Wellness Haven Yoga is what you may need. Always check with your doctors first.

Which type of class would you like to begin with? https://btb.poy.temporary.site/wellness-haven-yoga-classes/

Don’t wait for medical conditions to strike. Don’t invest in things and places that will simply waste your money and time. Take charge of your life, for you are worth it.

  • Meditation – An Answer To Chaos

Meditation – An Answer To Chaos

Meditation – An Answer To Chaos

When I read the article about the movie, “The Connection – Mind Your Body,” I knew I had to share this with everyone.

Meditation is not quite what many may think. It is not that you have to sit in front of a candle and concentrate hard to empty your mind! It is about awareness. It is about finding the gap between your thoughts. It is about resting the mind so that it can be peaceful, creative and progressive. It is about finding yourself.

Here is an extract from the article:

    There’s a 1 in 2 chance you’ll end up with a chronic illness.

It’s likely you know someone, or you are someone who is sick.

At 24 years old filmmaker Shannon Harvey was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Her immune system had become hyperactive and was attacking normal, healthy tissues. Her muscles and joints were inflamed and she was told if her disease progressed she could end up with organ failure, or wheelchair bound. In search of a cure, Shannon tried everything from drugs to alternative therapies and everything in between. But she was still sick. There was one thing she did know. When she was stressed, she got worse and with a background in journalism, Shannon sought answers in pioneering science. On her journey to getting better, Shannon realized that in order to change her health she needed to change her mind.

The Connection is a film about how frontier research is proving that there is a direct connection between your mind and your health.

The film features scientists, researchers, writers and doctors, as well as remarkable true stories of people adding mind body medicine to their healing toolkit to recover from severe back pain, heart disease, infertility, cancer and multiple sclerosis. While the science is complex, the solutions for people suffering with illness are astonishingly simple. The film shows that we can counter the harmful affects of stress with an equally powerful relaxation response triggered through specific techniques such as meditation. It shows that emotions can impact the course of an illness for better or for worse and could even be the difference between life and death. The film explains the mechanisms behind belief, which scientists now know contributes 30 to 50 percent of the effect of any known biological cure and explores how scientists at the cutting edge are now learning that the mind can even influence the expression of genes and the rate at which we age.

This is a film for people who have tried everything. It offers answers and proves that you can change your mind, change your health and change your life.

“We have more say in our own health than even our doctors.”
    Jon Kabat Zinn, Ph.D.
    Founder of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

At Wellness Haven, our philosophy is that health begins with AWARENESS. Awareness begins with calming the mind. This can happen only when one gives priority to Self care. Self care means giving time to the self, that is finding yourself worthy of attention and devoting a part of your daily life to keeping your mind in good health. We have a class just for this purpose, where we teach you valuable breathing techniques, Breath Meditation and Mantra Meditation.

Take charge of your life for you are the only one who can.

  • Blessed At Wellness Haven Yoga

    Blessed At Wellness Haven Yoga

    Blessed

At Wellness Haven Yoga School we are very blessed to have the most positive, joyful, progressive, compassionate and kind people who come to us and become a part of our amazing community, a family of people who care and share and learn and progress together.

This is only because we encourage and support such holistic behavior, for we truly follow the 8 limbs of yoga.  We are not just any yoga studio where one comes in for exercise and goes. We are a FAMILY. We have similar life philosophies, same wholesome attitudes.

This is very beautifully expressed in the quote by Will Smith:
“Don’t chase people. Be yourself, do your own thing, and work hard. The right people -the ones who really belong in your life-will come to you. And stay. ”

  • A Healthier Lifestyle

    A Healthier Lifestyle

    A Healthier Lifestyle

A key aspect of any nutrition program should be to keep one healthy and not starving or depleted or in misery!

At Wellness Haven we believe in gradually changing our lifestyle so that we are on a healthy path. We do not believe in yo-yo behavior patterns that actually destroy the lifestyle for the worse and not better.

We also believe that “losing body weight” is simply a byproduct of changing to a healthy lifestyle and is not the soul purpose of the program. Over the long run changes in eating habits is what makes the most difference. Our students realize this, experience this and tell us that they feel lighter in both body and mind, that they have to change over to smaller size clothes, their yoga forms have improved, their families are eating healthier, many physical issues have disappeared, no more acidity or heart burns or feelings of being bloated, no more headaches, change to positive and healthy thinking, and in general are much more joyful.

We believe that all three aspects of life need to come together for a joyful and peaceful human: PHYSICAL aspects through yoga asanas and nutrition and MENTAL and SPIRITUAL aspects through Breathing and Meditation practices.

What else can you ask for?

Get back on the healthy life track today for life is meant to be lived peacefully and joyfully. For those who are always concerned about the financial investment in your own body pay attention to:
    1. How ill the body feels when hit because of bad health
    2. How money flows out with hospital visits in spite of health insurance
    3. How the quality of your life suffers whenever in pain
    and
    4. How much money you spend for a few hours or a few days of pleasure when you eat out or buy materials or fly out for vacations.

We all need to fix our perceptions for therein lies the key to health.

  • Yoga Is Your Only Medicine

    Yoga Is Your Only Medicine

Yoga is your only medicine, the best medicine that one could have.

A conversation this morning reminded me of all that I used to do to exercise, then left it all for good and have been healed ever since: gym, kickboxing, running…I feel very fortunate to have found my holistic and wholesome yoga practice in its entirety, and not what many in the western world believe yoga to be.

People believe in gyms and all the workout they do to keep in shape. I don’t any more and this change has served me really well and I am grateful.

Many treat yoga as something external; to somehow go through a powerful and intense yoga asana practice all the time for that is how they can get a workout forgetting that our body and mind need a wholesome practice where not only the body is engaged but the mind, the heart and the soul as well. I am always amazed at some who practice yogasana with a serious face, and no laughter in their eyes. For them it is a ‘workout’ and nothing beyond that.

We need to practice yogasana the way it is meant to be: nutrition for the entire being.

We need gentle, and we need strengthening and we need intense and we need powerful – yes we need it all. And even more than that, if the yoga you practice has not transformed the very way you percieve life, you have not been practicing what is truly yoga. If it has left you with a mean attitude, talking bad about others and saying and doing things behind others back in ways that leaves a bad taste in the mouth, then you have not practiced yoga! If a yoga school has not been able to change your perspectives either because it does not have an authentic yoga practice or because you left it for that is not what you could merge with, then you are not practicing authentic yoga. It is a dishonor to even call such a practice “yoga”.

Just because someone can do some advanced yoga asanas does not mean that they are practicing yoga; it is much more than that – it is how you conduct your life moment to moment. It is learning to love others. It is learning to forgive others. It is learning to accept others for who they are. It is learning to guide yourself and others in the right direction. It is also learning to understand that change will happen only when the time is right and that in the process you need to continue to be your authentic self.

Let authentic yoga be your only medicine.
Practice all the 8 limbs of yoga and then you know that you are practicing authentic yoga.

  • Yoga Benefits

    Yoga Benefits

    Yoga Benefits

    – Yoga Asanas has countless benefits and yet each day I find that it reveals its immeasurable benefits that feel the need to share.

    • Amazing sleep benefits:

Your body progresses at the rate you want it to progress. It is essential that you continue to exercise your body through the asanas that suit your body’s needs with the intensity that is suitable for you. Give it up and you will see that impact on your sleep state: you become sleep deprived.

I experienced it first hand when I did not indulge in asana practice during my vacation with the same intensity that I practice when I am not on vacation. The quality of sleep was disturbed quite a bit and amazed me at its impacts. I had thought a gentle version of the practice during vacation would suffice, but it proved otherwise.

    • Flexibility increases multiple folds over months and years of practicing consistently:

Even though I used to be an active runner, running 6 miles every morning, and an active kick-boxing student, I never experienced the kind of flexibility I used to see in so many others who had an active yoga asana practice. And then yoga asanas became a part of my everyday life. With increased flexibility, the impossible yoga asanas became possible, the aches and pains disappeared and my posture improved.

Someone who used to be in a head to knee pose with head 1 foot away from the knee, a year of yoga kept me pleasantly surprised at my progress. I amazed myself when my nose could touch my knees with my elbows touching the earth on both sides of my legs.

The twists that used to show me the inflexibility in my spine and very small range of motion initially made me fall in love with such asanas that relaxed and detoxified my spine. The increase in the range of motion was quite an eye opener.

    • Strength builds keeping the posture and the muscles in optimal condition:

In general, women who do not exercise have weaker body and so was my case. But with a daily yoga asana practice that included strength building asanas like side planks and push-ups, my strength improved gradually and with this improvement my muscles became in a better shape holding my bones in place. It was quite a revelation when others started commenting on my yogic stance.

I also understood what could not be achieved through running and kickboxing and for gym visitors who just indulge in weight lifting – you build strength at the expense of flexibility, which is invaluable.”

    • Corrects posture that is the foundation of a healthy body:

More people than not that I come across have their heads not resting on the spine the way it should. No wonder they experience neck stress and strain, tiredness, aches and pains  in other parts of the body as well and degenerative arthritis of the spine. Spinal disks are the shock absorbers between vertebrae. When not exercised through forward folds, backbends and twists, these compress and in turn compress the nerves causing pain, tingling sensation and inflammation in various parts of the body.

At a young age when I started experiencing arthritic condition on my right finger, right lower back and right knee, I was scared. The yoga asana practice has gone a long way in keeping me fatigue free, energetic and walking tall. It has maintained the suppleness of my spine.

    • Flexible joints let you live an active life:

Many have accepted their immobile state as something that comes naturally with age! This is not correct at all. We have several examples of those above 80 and 90 who are completely fit and active.

A daily practice of yoga asanas has increased my joint mobility tremendously. A fluid joint is a mobile joint and a critical aspect of an active and mobile life.

    • An optimal bone density prevents diseases like osteoporosis:

Many are misinformed when they think that one cannot build more than flexibility through yogic stretches. In fact there are many yoga postures where we use our own weight and our own body resistance to strengthen our bones and prevent osteoporosis.

    • A balanced body keeps the weight evenly distributed and prevents falls:

The balancing yoga asanas prove to be a critical component of a sound yoga practice. Balance can come only with increased focus and understanding of the body. Balancing asanas when practiced daily bring balance to bodies that never thought it was possible. It has enabled many to prevent unnecessary falls resulting in severe damage to body parts.

    • Increased blood circulation prevents many diseases like heart attack, strokes and kidney issues:

Yogic stretching and twisting improve oxygenation of the cells as the circulatory system improves through increased levels of hemoglobin and red blood cells.

    • Optimizing the lymphatic system strengthens the auto immune system:

Yogic movements enable the viscous fluid – lymph – rich in immune cells to drain properly, which in turn support the lymphatic system to fight diseases by optimizing functioning at the cellular level.

    • Aerobic integration into yoga asana practice keeps the heart healthy:

An integrative yoga practice provides the most optimal combination of exercises to enable smooth functioning of the body and the mind, and  unlike any other form of exercise. Many are unaware of the aerobic benefits of an intense yoga practice.

The following is a combination of yoga asana practice that needs to be a part of every active yogins life. This simply means that each week should be a healthy combination of all aspects of yoga, keeping in mind that a beginner students has to gradually build up their practice to reap the full benefits of yoga.

      1. Slow gentle and restorative yoga asanas provides safe stretches that calm the mind and the body and even beginners of yoga or those who have never exercises are able to do it.
      2. Various levels of bone and muscle strengthening yoga asanas strengthens the muscles and the bones and can be practiced by people in various stages of their yoga journey.
      3. Balancing yoga asanas that bring focus, concentration, and calmness are also easily practiced without support as well as with the support of a wall so that all can take advantage.
      4. The progression of very gentle and easy to more intense yoga asanas support people in various stages of their yoga practice from beginner to advanced building the much needed stamina and endurance.
      5. And last but not the least  as the stamina and endurance increases, the body is also able to be in asanas longer or go through a more intense flow where the heart rate increases supporting the much needed aerobic aspect of a yoga practice which keeps the blood pumping with increased heart rate and improving cardiovascular functioning. This is one and the only aspect though that a beginner may not be able to experience for it comes with gradual and consistent daily practice over a period of time. Those who stay put reap the benefits.

Those who have made a daily yoga asana practice together with pranayama/controlled breathing practice, and meditation are the ones who maximize their health benefits. These are also conscious human beings who are aware and also integrate a healthy eating practice. They are those who have educated themselves and such education stays with an individual for a life time.

Whether it is high blood pressure, hypertension, depression, anxiety, stress, fatigue, chronic pain, increased blood sugar, excess body weight or loss of appetite, a healthy, safe and wholesome yoga practice is your answer.

If you are someone who is able to achieve all of this on your own, you are very fortunate and keep up with it. Most people are unable to have an effective practice on their own and require a group environment that motivates them, and inspires them to stay connected to themselves. It is never enough to do something randomly, but it truly pays to have a consistent practice.

Just like we breathe and eat every day, we also need to exercise every day.
