    I Want To Lose Weight!

    “Dear Umang,
    This is my journey. I am a diabetic who had high cholesterol.
    I started Umang’s Wellness Haven Yoga middle of September, 2014. I had mentioned to my husband that I wanted to join a yoga studio because I disliked going to the gym; it was so impersonal – I was one of seventy students in the yoga class. People lined up, attended and then left!
    My husband found Umang’s Wellness Haven. I came for 2 weeks. I felt I found my place. Umang makes us feel like home. It is most welcoming and nurturing haven.
    After a month of Umang’s Yoga, I wanted to try her Nutrition program and Meditation and Breathing. Even though I paid for everything because I had bought her 3 months unlimited package with all her programs (yoga, Breathing, Meditation and Nutrition), I kept putting off the nutrition. Umang had said it was alright, I will start when I was ready. I finally started January 12, 2015.
    After completing the 12 week plan, my diabetic hemoglobin A1C was 5.8, it was 11 before. My cholesterol used to be 210 and had dropped 102 points to 108. My endocrinologist was shocked and I told her how I did it with Umang’s help.
    I have lost over 25 pounds since I joined Umang’s Wellness Haven. I haven’t weighed this in over 32 years since my youngest was born! My body fat went down 5% (41 to 36). I have lost 1.4″ in my upper arms (13.5 to 12.1), 3″ in my waist (38.5 to 35.5), 2.2″ in my hips (43.4 to 41.2), 2.8″ in my thighs (22 to 19.2), .5″ in my calves (14.5 to 14). In September I was a size 14. Now I am size 8. This has surpassed all my expectations! I feel wonderful and happy. That is all I can ask for.

    Detox

    There are many who know the word “DETOX” but remain unaware of exactly what it is!

    Every so often (I hope it is infrequent for most!), we take in heavy food for pleasure.
    And in order to get back our body at the optimal functioning level again, we need to get the body back on track.

    How many times per year do we detox?
    We prefer once a quarter.
    We simply make a conscious decision to upgrade our eating patterns, from the day to day habits- mostly good habits, which may have derailed on birthdays, anniversaries, parties and vacations. Since we keep a generally healthy lifestyle (Wellness Haven Students do as they are educated on awareness primarily) quarterly cleanups are all we need to continue to do and is not a major upheaval for us.

    By detoxing once per quarter, we are able to get rid of the toxins from our system, which the modern food industry encourages us to do! This detox enables a more alkaline internal environment, so needed for a clean and healthy internal environment and a life full of happy energy.

    To maintain our external organ – the skin- and the internal organs – lungs, kidneys and bowels, we keep them functioning without overload from the acid buildup through unhealthy eating. This acid buildup is also known as “acidosis” and is why we may run
    into critical health issues, disease and sickness.
    Food can be categorized into:
    Dead food: meat, poultry and dairy
    Processed food: externally manufactured and packaged food
    Healthy food: natural food
    It is the dead and processed food that creates toxicity, acidity and system overload preventing the system to absorb healthy nutrients and leading to illness, fatigue, constipation, lethargy, headaches, bloating and so many other body issues that an average human being remains unaware of and wonder “why I don’t feel good”.
    In order to maintain a happy, healthy alkaline -acidic balance, so that our system functions optimally, we need to clean or detox our system on a regular basis.
    At Wellness Haven, we not only teach you how to clean the system every quarter but we also teach you simple methods to maintain yourself throughout as well as how to take

    Our bodies are designed to self-heal without too much of outside interference, with proper nutrition, with exercising our limbs, and with keeping our innermost self joyful.

    In this modern day and age though, most are in a rat race. Where they are going, even they do not know! There is no defined path to fulfill the Higher Purpose in life for they have not stopped long enough to understand why they were given this gift of life on our mother earth. And no wonder, the modern human is suffering from depression, anxiety, and are emotionally unfulfilled which manifest in innumerable physical health issues driving them to medical facilities and doctors who prescribe pain killers and chemical treatments without looking deeper into the emotional aspect of the issue at hand.

    If people stopped to analyse the reason behind the many health issues, they would find that one of the most simple solutions to many health issues is to look at the events and people in ones life that may be the source of problems, and that removal of all forms of toxins would be the first step towards physical health.

    Simple Formula For Manifestation

    You are here because something about the subject matter heightened your curiosity.
    Before you dive in though ask yourself the following question and write down your response:

    1. What is it that I have been wanting sincerely and with all my heart to happen in my life and yet I am unable to manifest it?
    2. Have I done everything for to make my dream come to fruition?
    3. Have I used all possible resources to manifest my dream?
    4. Have given “enough time” for the manifestation of my dream?

    Did you write down your responses to the above questions? If yes, then read further.

    Imagine a cup of delicious tea you made for yourself and when you sat down to drink it, something came in your way, so that you had to put your cup down and take care of the matter at hand. An hour goes by and you come back to your tea. It is cold. You simply sigh!

    If you still want to drink the tea, guess what you need to do? 
    Empty the cup of the cold tea, rinse it out and make yourself a fresh cup of tea, or take another fresh cup instead.

    You are now ready to understand what it takes to manifest.

    1. Understand your dream and goal.
    2. Understand the intensity of your desire to manifest, the emotions around it. 
    3. Make space and time for the dream that you want to manifest.
    4. Do not let barriers in the way of your dream pull you away from your dream.
    5. Gather the necessary resources needed to manifest your dream.

    7. Pave the path meticulously for your dream.
    6. Hold yourself accountable and GET the result!

    Know that it takes tremendous amount of time, space, resources, and patience to manifest your dream. If it was not the case, then it everyone would be manifesting all the time…in fact they do!

    Now you are confused and saying, “What?”

    Yes each one of us is manifesting what is on our minds all the time – frustration, anxiety, negative thinking resulting in nothing but STRESS and then you QUIT saying is it all hogwash!

    But hogwash it is not!

    Let us approach it in a very simple day to day life manifestation.
    1. Understand your dream and goal: You decide to buy yourself a pair of comfortable shoes because your feet have been achy lately.
    2. Understand the intensity of your desire to manifest, the emotions around it: You have to get it today or spend another day with achy feet ruining your day!
    3. Make space and time for the dream that you want to manifest: You decide that you have a couple of hours the same evening when you can set aside everything else for buying the comfortable shoes takes priority. You even put the uncomfortable shoes that you have been wearing in a bag to give away to charity for you do not need it anymore even though it was still new!
    4. Do not let barriers in the way of your dream pull you away from your dream: There were things needing your attention in the evening but you decided that buying the shoes this evening was more important than anything else that evening, for your achy feet had started to give you a lot of restlessness.
    5. Gather the necessary resources needed to manifest your dream: You have set aside money to buy your shoes.
    7. Pave the path meticulously for your dream: You make your way with your purse to the store carrying the kind of shoes you need.
    6. Hold yourself accountable and GET the result!: You go through the shoes that you selected for trial, find the one that is suitable for your needs, pay the price of the shoes and walk out in comfort!

    Yes you have manifested your desire to get the shoes the same evening!

    The philosophy towards manifesting anything is is the same. The difference maybe in WHAT you NEED to manifest. Somethings in life are much bigger than buying a pair of shoes, the time and space and resources required are much more and the help you need to make your dream come true maybe expertise of those who understand these principles thoroughly.

    If you are someone who truly wants to realize your dream, something that seemed not quite possible, with as few mental hangups as possible, with the least amount of frustration and enormous amounts of inspiration, motivation, encouragement and support, and someone to stand behind you in the process and journey of manifestation holding you accountable in your action steps without letting you quit when the going gets tough, in the shortest amount of time, you need a COACH.

    The formula for manifestation is simple. To make it smooth, and joyful you need support.

    • As you are healing your body through streching, strengthening, balancing, Heal it Nutritionally as well so that the fuel required for the body’s healthy growth is coming from the right sources.
    • With Physical Healing also pay attention to Emotional, Mental, Spiritual Healing as well through Meditation and Breathing Exercises or Pranayama.

     Dream To Reality

    Are you always wanting things to change in your life and yet you find that they hardly change year after year…

    Know that if you continue doing what you have been doing so far, things will continue to remain the way it always has been!

    To achieve anything in life, we need to look back and see where we have had success in the past whether it is a very small thing or big. How did you make it happen or why it did not happen!

    You may have desired:

    • to get your health back on track
      • to get rid of physical ailments
      • to lose excess body weight
      • to become stress free
    • to own something that you have never had before
    • to start a business that you have always thought was impossible
    • to be in a better relationship with family members or friends

    or

    • you may not even know what is keeping you unhappy and unfulfilled!
    • you are simply flowing through life year after year with nothing changing for the better

    In order for anything to come to fruition you will invariably need the following:

    • You have a desire and a dream
    • You target the dream with determination
    • You target the resources needed to make the dream a reality
    • You create a rock solid plan of action steps
    • You start working on the action steps
    • You stay motivated, and inspired as you work on the action steps
    • You need momentum that continues to grow
    • You do not let any barrier come in your way
    • You are held ACCOUNTABLE

    The one critical ingredient in the above magical formula is ACCOUNTABILITY. Without accountability nothing comes true. Things may even start to progress and bloom, but fizzles out sooner or later for there are too many distractions that come in your way in spite of heartfelt resolutions!

    If you truly sincerely want something from the core of your being, no one can stop you from achieving it! The only one person that stops you from achieving it is YOU!

    So HOW do you actually make your dream a reality?

    Take a paper and pencil and write down:

    • What is it that you want to happen – What is your goal/dream/desire?
      • What emotions and feelings does just thinking about this dream generate in you?
    • Why do you want this dream to come true?
      • What emotions and feelings does the achievement of  this dream generate in you?
    • If you do not achieve this dream, what consequences will you face  in your life?
      • What emotions and feelings does not achieving this dream generate in you?
        • Do you want to continue to live a life where dreams never come true?
        • Do you want to stay unfulfilled for the rest of your life because you are just not able to do all that it takes for it to come true?
        • Do you resign yourself to the fact that it is simply not doable?
        • Do you continue to live in guilt and regrets of it never coming to fruition?
        • Do you allow others to tell you that it is okay to not be able to reach your goal?
        • Do you want mediocrity instead of magnificent?
        • Do you want to live without this dream for the rest of your life?

    If you are NOT okay to live without excitement and passion of your dreams then it is time to do something different. It is time to take expert help and support, someone to hold your hand and continue to hold your hand, guide you and motivate you and inspire you until you see RESULTS!

    Imagine the emotions you will feel when your heart core desire comes true!

    Myth Around Multitasking

    Myth Around Multitasking

     

    The subject of multitasking came about this morning in our Yoga Teacher Training Session and it urged me to write about my own personal learning and experience with multitasking.

    Human Multitasking is derived from “Computer Multitasking” where the processes are actually done in an entirely different manner than the human world. Either the tasks are done through time sharing and rotations where only one task is done at any given point in time in the case of single core microprocessors or tasks are done simultaneously in multi-core computers.

    When it comes to the human brain though, although the human brain can perform perceptual and motor functions effectively at the same time with training, it is extremely difficult to learn new information effectively while the brain is involved in performing another task. This is because the brain cannot effectively switch from start to finish of one task with another like the computer. How effective multitasking will be,  depends on the tasks being performed at the same time.

    We live in the modern world, where everyone is in a hurry. There is a lack of patience. We want to “save” time, and yet in reality we end up wasting time!

    Here is a example from my own experience:
    During my work in the corporate world, I was constantly in phone meetings. This did not mean that my own work load was any less, which also meant that there was constant juggling of tasks involved in any given work day. As many can relate to this, I was often “performing” my own tasks on the computer while attending the meetings where I was also actively participating! Looking back I can say that I was not 100% focused on the meeting or the task at hand. The result was time wasted in resolving errors as well as important information that I did not catch during the meeting!

    Another example on the home front is when I put something on the stove for cooking and decided to split time doing laundry, or talking on the phone or something else! The result was either burned food or burned skin!!

    The conclusion is that we should plan to multi-task in such a way that precious time does not get wasted in the hurry of accomplishing 2 tasks at the same time with error in both tasks!

    For example, if we do want to cook and laundry at the same time, it can be accomplished through proper sequencing of tasks. We can put clothes in the washing machine, which when completed will shut down when the cycle is complete on its own, and immediately proceed to cooking. If we know that the cooking is at a low temperature for at least 10 minutes, then we can proceed to transfer the clothes to the dryer and go back to cooking! This simply means an effective sequencing is required.

    In this modern world we take pride in saying that we are multi-tasking kings and queens, when in reality we have wasted more precious time than not. Think carefully about which tasks you are about to do “multi-task” and proceed with caution.

    Manage Your Stress Effectively – Reclaim Your Happiness

    You are under stress if you are not in your naturally joyful state of being.

    There are many underlying factors causing stress in ones life, but every factor is a result of the 3 critical factors mentioned below:

    • Relationship: You are in an uncomfortable relationship with a significant other or a family member or a friend or with someone related to your work. Yoiu want to be in control of the situation but you are not. This is damaging to your emotional health.
    • Money: Your finances are keeping you worried. You are living from paycheck to paycheck.
    • Health: You are not in a healthy state of being. You have physical health related issues. You are unable to manage your Eating Habits.

    If you are under duress due to any one of the above, you are STRESSED!

    So how do you keep your stress under control?

    I manage mine very effectively. Here is My Story – Utter Chaos To Joyful Health

    In general people think:
    -if they ignore or avoid the stress factor, they will be able to manage their stress – ignoring or avoiding never helps. We need to face our situation boldly and manage the stress factor with result based action steps.
    – if they exercise, they will be able to manage their stress – exercise always helps by producing happy hormones in the body but is temporary for as long as you exercise you are good; you leave it and you are back to square one! So Exercise daily!
    – if they sit and meditate, they will be able to manage their stress – it relaxes and calms the mind but is temporary for it lasts as long as you have calmed your thoughts! So Meditate daily!

    Effective stress management is a skill and an art that is learned through AWARENESS – which comes through education of the mind; through exercises like meditation, breathing techniques and visualization which are simply tools to develop awareness of your authentic Self so that there can be a change in attitude and perceptions, a change in ones belief system, that is transformation in the way you think and act!  With changed perceptions and better habits, every aspect of your life improves: relationships, finances, and health.
